We will use history to be better informed, to learn to read and write well and learn how to have civil discussions about past and current issues.

For your final you can choose from the following options.
Grading will be based on the following criteria:
Expectations
- Study ancient civilization from the down of the Neolithic revolution to the fall of the Roman Empire
- Learn the key civilizations and the key players that shaped them
- Learn to read comprehensively, analyze objectively, and write coherently
- Understand how those ancient civilizations help shape our present day
- Practice having civil discussions about diverse issues

- Quizzes
- Your choice of final; exam, paper or project
For your final you can choose from the following options.
- A final exam given one week before the end of the quarter covering the information learned during the entire quarter. The exam can be taken up to 3 times and the best score will be recorded for your grade.
- A research paper written by you about a subject discussed during the quarter. Its subject is your choice but needs to be approved by me. It needs to be 4 to 10 pages in length, include a title page and a bibliography. It needs to be turned in no later than 2 weeks before the end of the quarter to be proof read. You then have the final week to make revisions and corrections.
- A project. This can be a film, a quilt, a diorama, a newspaper, a presentation, an original song, etc.…come up with a creative way to show me you understand something you have learned and get it approved by me. Show me your unique way of bring history alive and get credit for it.
Grading will be based on the following criteria:
- Class participation 40%
- Quizzes 20%
- Final at the end of each quarter 40%
Expectations
- Be in class. Be willing to participate in class discussion. Ask thoughtful questions and share your opinions about the topic at hand.
- Follow the Rules of Common Courtesy (more on this in class).
- Help create a safe learning space by being kind and courteous to your fellow students.
- If you need help, ask. I’m a terrible mind reader.
